Connect ChatGPT or Claude

Use your assistant to read, search and reply to messages. Start by copying a setup prompt. MailContact Pro or Plus required.

1. Copy the setup prompt

Open Account settings → AI assistants & MCP. Select Copy installation prompt.

2. Paste it into your assistant

Paste the prompt into ChatGPT or Claude. Follow the connection steps, sign in to MailContact and choose what the assistant can do.

  • Read: find and read conversations.
  • Manage read status: mark messages read or unread.
  • Send replies: answer existing conversations.

You can start with reading only. Your assistant can draft answers in the chat for you to review.

3. Ask about your messages

  • “What messages need a reply?”
  • “Find the conversation about a booking.”
  • “Summarize this conversation and suggest a short answer.”

Review the answer before asking your assistant to send it. Sending requires the reply permission and follows the same reply limits as the app.

Disconnect at any time

In the same settings, open Connected assistants and select Disconnect. This stops new requests; replies already queued may still be sent.

Connection requirements and shared inboxes

Your assistant must support remote MCP connections with sign-in. Availability depends on the assistant and its settings. If copying fails, select View prompt.

The connection covers your inboxes and accepted shared inboxes; it cannot be limited to one inbox. Shared access still follows your role: readers cannot send replies.

You need Pro or Plus on your own MailContact account, including for shared inboxes. The shared inbox’s owner must also have Pro or Plus. Connections stop working on Free.

Reading through an assistant does not mark messages as read. The connection cannot delete conversations or email new recipients. Incoming messages and replies share your plan’s monthly allowance.

Advanced connection options

The server URL is https://mailcontact.app/api/mcp. The connection uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth sign-in.

For assistants that require a Bearer token, open Advanced: API keys. Choose permissions and an expiry, then save the key in the assistant’s secure connection settings. It is shown only once. Never paste a key or password into a chat or URL.

If a connection expires, reconnect through your assistant. You can revoke API keys in MailContact settings.
